Yard waste disposal in Pasco County: curbside pickup, composting, hauling it yourself, a dumpster from $325, or a yard waste removal crew.

Quick answer: For yard waste disposal in Pasco County, you have five main options: curbside yard waste pickup, composting or mulching at home, hauling it to a county disposal site yourself, renting a dumpster for big clearing jobs, or hiring a yard waste removal crew. Curbside works for routine trimming if you follow the county's bundling rules. For anything bigger, a dumpster rental or yard waste removal is usually faster.

Florida yards never really stop growing. Between palm fronds that drop all year, live oaks that shed in spring, and storms that bring down limbs, Pasco County homeowners deal with a lot of yard debris.

The right way to get rid of it depends on how much you have, how fast you need it gone, and how much work you want to do yourself. Here's a look at each option.

1. Curbside Yard Waste Pickup

For most homes in unincorporated Pasco County and its cities, curbside yard waste collection is the first stop. It's convenient and often already part of what you pay for trash service.

The catch is the rules. Counties and haulers typically set limits on things like:

  • How branches must be cut and bundled
  • How long and heavy each bundle or piece can be
  • Whether you need paper bags, cans, or loose piles
  • How much you can put out per pickup
  • Which day yard waste goes out

We're not going to quote those limits here, because they change and can depend on where you live. Check Pasco County's solid waste information or call your hauler before you set out a big pile. Debris that doesn't follow the rules may get left at the curb.

Curbside is great for weekly trimming. It's not built for clearing a half-acre of overgrown brush or a tree's worth of limbs.

2. Composting and Mulching

If you've got the space, some yard waste is worth keeping.

  • Leaves and grass clippings break down quickly in Florida's heat and humidity. A simple bin or pile in a back corner of the yard works.
  • Small branches and twigs can be chipped into mulch if you have access to a chipper.
  • Grass clippings can often just stay on the lawn when you mow.

A few things to skip in the compost pile: palm fronds (they're fibrous and slow to break down) and anything diseased. Keep compost away from the house and fences, and check your HOA rules before you start one.

3. Hauling Yard Waste Yourself

If you have a pickup truck or a utility trailer, you can haul yard debris to a disposal site yourself. Pasco County operates solid waste facilities, and nearby counties have their own.

Before you load up:

  • Check the site's hours, accepted materials, and fees. Look these up on the county website, since they change.
  • Tarp and strap your load. Loose branches and fronds blowing off a truck on US-19 are a hazard to everyone behind you.
  • Count the trips. A big job can turn into several runs, plus time, gas, and wear on your vehicle.

For a small one-time job, a self-haul can make sense. For a big one, it adds up fast.

4. A Dumpster for Big Clearing Jobs

When you're clearing an overgrown lot, taking out a hedge row, cleaning up after a storm, or getting rid of a downed tree's limbs, a dumpster is usually the easiest path.

You load it on your schedule, and when you're done, we haul it away. Yard waste, branches, and palm fronds are all on our accepted list.

Which size for yard waste?

  • 10-yard ($325, 2 tons included): A big weekend trimming, a few shrubs, a season's worth of palm fronds.
  • 15-yard ($400, 3 tons included): Clearing a side yard, removing a hedge row, a large backyard cleanup.
  • 20-yard ($500, 4 tons included): Lot clearing, limbs from several trees, or yard waste plus other cleanout debris.

Yard debris is bulky and fills space quickly, but wet yard waste, stumps, and dirt get heavy. If you have a lot of soil, sod, or stumps, tell us when you call so we can help you pick the right size.

Tips for loading yard waste

  • Cut branches down so they lie flat instead of sticking up.
  • Stack palm fronds in the same direction. They nest together and take up much less room.
  • Put heavier logs and limbs on the bottom, lighter leaves and bags on top.
  • Keep the load level with the top of the walls.

Our guide on how to load a dumpster has more on packing tight.

5. Yard Waste Removal Service

Don't want to do the loading? Our yard waste removal crew handles it. We show up, load the branches, fronds, and piles, and haul everything away. You don't have to lift a thing.

This option makes sense when:

  • The piles are already on the ground and you just need them gone
  • You don't have help or don't want to do the heavy lifting in the heat
  • You need it done in one visit rather than over a weekend

Yard waste removal is priced per job. Send us a description or a few photos and we'll give you a price. If you also have old furniture, a shed full of junk, or other debris to clear out, our junk removal team can take it in the same trip.

Timing Your Yard Cleanup in Pasco County

  • Spring is a popular time, after oaks drop their leaves and before the summer heat sets in.
  • Before hurricane season (June 1 through November 30), clearing dead branches and loose debris helps keep things from becoming projectiles. See our hurricane prep checklist.
  • After a storm, the county may run separate storm debris collections with their own rules. Follow the county's instructions and don't mix storm debris with regular trash.
  • Work early in the day. Summer afternoons are hot and often stormy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Pasco County pick up yard waste at the curb?

Many Pasco County homes have curbside yard waste collection through their trash service, but the rules for bundling, bag types, pile size, and pickup days vary. Check with Pasco County or your hauler before you set anything out.

Can I put palm fronds and branches in a dumpster?

Yes. Yard waste, branches, and palm fronds are on Lupo's accepted list. Cut long branches down so they lie flat, and keep the load level with the top of the trailer.

What size dumpster do I need for a yard cleanup?

For trimming and a few piles of branches, a 10-yard ($325, 2 tons included) is usually enough. For clearing an overgrown lot or taking down several trees' worth of limbs, look at the 15-yard ($400) or 20-yard ($500).

Can someone else load the yard waste for me?

Yes. Lupo's yard waste removal crew loads and hauls the debris for you. It's priced per job, so send a description or a few photos and we'll give you a price.
